Gender is such an important component that influences so many things in our life: our health, our wellbeing, our opportunities… so that is why it is so important to also really study gender in the research as well. It hasn’t been systematically done in the past. And one of the problems is that it is not about counting the number of men and the number of women doing research, it is including systematically sex and gender disaggregated data in research.
